Nasal Polypectomy in North Richland Hills

Nasal polyps are soft, non-cancerous growths that develop from the lining of the sinuses or nasal passages. When they become large enough to obstruct breathing or cause chronic sinus problems, surgical removal called a nasal polypectomy may be recommended. North Hills ENT in North Richland Hills offers this procedure as part of a comprehensive treatment plan.

What Are Nasal Polyps?

Nasal polyps result from chronic inflammation of the nasal mucosa, often associated with allergies, asthma, chronic sinusitis, aspirin sensitivity, or cystic fibrosis. They appear as teardrop-shaped, grape-like growths and can range from very small to large enough to fill the nasal cavity and block sinus drainage entirely.

Symptoms of Nasal Polyps

  • Persistent nasal congestion or blockage
  • Reduced or absent sense of smell (hyposmia/anosmia)
  • Chronic runny nose
  • Facial pressure or headache
  • Snoring and mouth breathing
  • Recurrent sinus infections

Non-Surgical Treatment First

Initial treatment for nasal polyps typically involves intranasal corticosteroid sprays, short courses of oral steroids, and treatment of underlying allergies or sinusitis. Newer biologic medications (dupilumab/Dupixent) are increasingly effective for polyps in patients with type 2 inflammation. Surgery is recommended when medical management fails or polyps are too large.

Nasal Polypectomy Procedure

Polypectomy is typically performed as outpatient surgery under general anesthesia. Using an endoscope and microdebrider, the ENT surgeon removes the polyps and opens blocked sinus passages. At North Hills ENT, our surgeon will discuss the full scope of the procedure with you during your consultation.

Recovery and Recurrence

Recovery typically involves 1–2 weeks of nasal congestion and drainage. Saline rinses and steroid sprays are used post-operatively to reduce the chance of recurrence — which is a known risk, especially without ongoing medical management of the underlying inflammation.
